Other Yellowstone Winter Activities
During the winter, Yellowstone Park has a limited number of facilities that are open during the winter season. In the Old Faithful area, the Old Faithful Snow Lodge and Cabins, Snow Lodge Restaurant Geyser Grill, and Madison Warming Hut Snack Bar are open. In the Mammoth area, the Mammoth Hotel and Dining Room are also open.
Cross-country ski rental packages, instruction, service & repair is available at the Bear Den at Mammoth Lodge and Snow Lodge in the Old Faithful area. There are two park free programs held on at rotating schedule in the Old Faithful area. A ranger-led evening program (Thursday through Sunday nights).This 45-minute program highlights different aspects of ‘Yellowstone’s natural, cultural, or scenic wonders.’ Weekly program descriptions are posted in the temporary Old Faithful Visitor Center and the Old Faithful Snow Lodge.
Starting mid-December, rangers will also present a talk 20 minutes prior to each mid-day eruption at Old Faithful. “Geysers Galore” examines the geology of Yellowstone including information on volcanoes and earthquakes. Times are posted daily at the temporary Old Faithful Visitor Center. Meet at the benches in front of Old Faithful.
