June 24-28, 2009: WYSEF Biathlon Shooting Camp
This camp is designed for apiring Biathletes with some experience and their own equipment. It provides an opportunity for athletes new to Biathlon to learn the fundaments of rifle fit, shooting position, and race strategy. It is also available to experienced shooters as an opportunity to review the basics and evaluate and improve their technique.

June 26, 2009: WYSEF Summer Paddle on Quake Lake
The West Yellowstone Ski Education Foundation would like to welcome all adventureers on a guided kayak tour of Quake Lake Friday, June 26th. Join board members David Robinson and Peggy Lynn at the boat ramp of Quake Lake just west of the Beaver Creek USFS campground. Be ready for a 9 am departure and count on a great morning exploring this unique body of water just in time for the 50th Anniversary of the Hebgen Lake Earthquake. WYSEF Summer Adventures are open to everyone and promote physical fitness and appreciation of our natural environment throughout the warm months. Lava Creek Adventures has generously donated the use of their kayaks for our adventure. Don't hesitate to call ahead, only nine kayaks are available. June 26, 2009: Outformation Concert in Big Sky
Fire Pit Park, Big Sky Town Center.
Outformation is a jam band with a southern rock sound, and they’ll be kicking off Big Sky’s summer season on a professional stage complete with lights, and rocking sound on the grass at Fire Pit Park.This is an all-ages, all-weather show. Bring your appetite and your thirst to support the local vendors like Choppers Grub and Pub, which will be grilling at the concert! Entry is fee starting at 7:00 pm.

June 27-28, 2009: 12th Annual Mountain Bike Biathlon
This 12th Annual Summer Biathlon is offering a new twist this year with a mountain bike biathlon.
A mountain bike biathlon race and a Biathlon Shooting and Race Clinic.
Everyone is welcome to participate. You do not have to have any biathlon experience.
Two divisions will be offered, Match Class (biathletes with their own rifles and experience) and Sport Class (novices).
The race will be 7.5k of mountain bike riding with two shooting bouts, prone and standing.
Athlete gift, prizes in Sport and Match divisions by age groups are included in the registration fee.

Proceeds raised will support the Volunteer Fire Department for equipment and training. They will also be hosting a motorcycle poker ride and pig roast 6-8 pm. |

Bring your blankets, lawn chairs, picnics (although the Fire Department will be cookin' up their barbeque benefit) and the kids. Enjoy a casual evening of live music in the great outdoors! This summer's first evening of Music in the Park will feature regional and local talent followed by Blue Jack. Free of charge and begins in the Town Park immediately following the parade.

July 24, 2009: Classic Drive-In Movie Coming to Big Sky
The Town Center is planning the drive-in movie to help raise awareness for Big Sky’s growing trail system. All proceeds from ticket sales, and a percentage of the food/drink proceeds will be donated to the non-profit Big Sky Community Corporation’s trails program. Prices are expected to be about $20 per car, with a limited number of Premium Tailgate Party spots campers, canopy tents, and larger vehicles, which are expected to go for $50. Spaces are limited.

Run or walk! This relaxed race, a celebration of summer, has 8km and
10K events for adults and a kids' race, too; and has been named one
of the top thirteen most scenic race courses in the country. The traffic-free

Every year people come from all over eastern Idaho from Idaho Falls to West Yellowstone to participate in the event. This Historic Railroad Ranch is transformed into a Halloween town with wagon rides, trick or treat houses, halloween scenes, carnival, and a haunted house. From 6:30 to 9:00 pm families have a safe and fun place to bring children of all ages to an event that shouldn't be missed.

This is a must for every cross-country skier! West Yellowstone literally comes alive in lycra in November. Hundreds of Nordic ski enthusiasts from all over the world, novice to expert, gather to learn more about the sport, practice techniques and see new equipment. Early snows, superb grooming, racing opportunities and the Nordic Skiing Exposition make this an especially inviting time. On-snow clinics take place between November 24-28. SuperTour Ski Races are scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

The yips of eager dogs will pierce the winter mornings as mushers prepare for the return of Sled Dog Races to West Yellowstone. After four-year hiatus, paws will pound across the Old Airport as sleds and mushers head off down the trail. Races begin at 9:00 both days with 12-dog teams the first off. 8-dog and 6-dog teams follow in order. Awards will follow Sundays races. |

The second in our three part series of citizen races. The winner, as always, receives a SPAM trophy. Join us on the trails, have some fun, and work off those holiday pounds! The race will start at 11am or just after the conclusion of the biathlon race. The race entry fee will be $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Anyone wishing to make a donation to the Susan G. Komen Foundation through WYSEF will receive a commemorative long sleeved t-shirt while supplies last. Suggested donations start at $5 (this could be the cheapest long sleeved tee outside of Crazy Dayz and you are supporting a great cause!) Race registration and the start/finish line will be held at the Biathlon cabin next to the range. Race distances will be 2k, 5k, 10k, & 15k. |

Meet at the Forest Service in West Yellowstone at 12:30 pm. Participants will caravan to Refuge Point 23 miles northwest of town. Free guided snowshoe walk will cover 2 miles. Participants will learn why refuge Point was a vital meeting place after the 1959 Hebgen Lake Earthquake. Bring snowshoes, snack, water and dress for the cold. Beginners Welcome! February 2010: Junior Olympic National Qualifier
The third and final race in the Intermountain Cross Country Ski Division will be held in West Yellowstone this weekend. Junior men and women will compete to place on the US Junior National team. The US Junior National will be held in Truckee, CA from March 7-15, 2009. Come on out and cheer on all the kids as they try for their best race of the season.

March 2010: Yellowstone Rendezvous Ski Race
Held on the first Saturday in March on the world-class Rendezvous Ski Trails, this event draws hundreds of cross-country skiers. With the blast of a black powder canon, racers sprint out to compete in a variety of age classes and distances in both classic and freestyle of 5 to 50K lengths. With grooming provided by Yellowstone Track Systems, this is arguably the best track to be found all year. June 2010: Janet Clarkson Memorial Triathlon
Janet Clarkson was an avid participant in many racing events. Janet passed
away at age 37 from Ewing's Sarcoma, a bone cancer. This annual event
in honor of Janet, and for the benefit of the West Yellowstone School's
Scholarship Fund and the American Cancer Society, is held in and around
Janet's summer-time home, the Madison Arm Resort on Hebgen Lake. Considered
a mini-triathlon, there is a 1000 meter swim, followed by a 13.1 mile
bicycle ride and concludes with 4.3 mile run. Starting at 10:00 am with an awards ceremony immediately
follows the competition.
