West Yellowstone, Lodging, Business, And More!
West Yellowstone is a small Montana town located in a high mountain valley, surrounded by National Forests and Yellowstone National Park. West Yellowstone is also the best gateway to Yellowstone Park and its features. Yellowstone's west entrance is located right in West Yellowstone and is the closest and easiest route to Old Faithful and Yellowstone's geyser areas.

The national forests outside Yellowstone and surrounding West Yellowstone are also teeming with wildlife and birding sightings each spring. Take a drive around our 64-mile "block" and look for bison, bighorn sheep, moose, elk, eagles, osprey, and more! Download this map "West of Yellowstone Park", for routes, directions, and other information.
After April 20th, 2012, the roads into Yellowstone’s interior open for vehicle traffic. The west entrance opens first followed by the other entrances. Our “Roads Info” page provides road schedules and road construction updates. Spring is a great opportunity for wildlife watching as Yellowstone’s bears and wolves are on the move, while mothers with reddish baby bison share the roadways with you. Enjoy a quiet stroll on the boardwalks around Old Faithful or listen for songbirds migrating in for the warm season.
For information on events and activities for this spring and summer, please check out the West Yellowstone events calendar. Watch for the opening of the Yellowstone Historic Center on Saturday, May 19th, 2012 featuring the “Thoroughfare” Yellowstone exhibit. Families will enjoy the internationally-recognized Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center. The Center is open every day for live viewing of grizzly bears and wolves, naturalist displays and programs. The Yellowstone IMAX features movies about nature, wildlife, and an exclusive Yellowstone feature, all on a six-story screen.
